A commercial clear-fell is not an experiment - it happens on somebody else's schedule, for somebody else's reasons. Kvarnberget is what happens when you persuade a forest owner to let you core the ground eleven months before they cut it.
Sixty plots on a 400 metre transect running from unharvested forest, across the felled block, to the edge of the next stand. Baseline in June 2011, harvest in May 2012, remeasured every autumn since. It is the only clear-fell series in the region with a true before, and it is the backbone of the 2026 recovery paper.
The owner has since let us keep the plots through a replanting and a first thinning, which is a generosity the funding structure has no way of acknowledging.
